Rihanna is a musical machine. Can you all believe that she will be releasing her seventh studio album next week?! She is the artist that keeps on giving and I am grateful for that. You can’t deny that you have partied it up to Cheers (I’ll Drink to That) and We Found Love. If you do, you’re lying. The new album, titled Unapologetic, promises to be an interesting ride and I can only hope that it’s the most honest look we see into her career and life. She is not known for mincing words or appearing to “politically correct” so I’m hoping for more boundary pushing by RiRi.

The new music video for her first single, Diamonds, seems a bit disjointed and doesn’t have a movie-like plot. Instead, it is a simple look into beautiful imagery that hold a meaning to the message of the song and the artist. I could try to read into the burning rose, the stallion, the floating in the water, and the diamond blunt, but I think I would just make a fool of myself. Let’s leave the poetics to Rihanna and the director of the video, Anthony Mandler.

I have to say that I wasn’t really into the song the first time I heard it, but it grew on me. Rihanna has been through some many ups and downs in the seven years that she has been active in the music industry, but her strength has set her apart. It’s still her time to shine like a diamond.
