Last Friday, November 2nd, Jonathan Keogh published the video “IMDB Top 250 in 2 1/2 Minutes” to YouTube. In the week since it was posted “IMDB Top 250″ has already received over 230 million views. This is one of the coolest videos I’ve seen in a while. It features rapidly edited clips from the most iconic films of the past 70 years or so, set to an equally cool mash-up of The Beates, Joan Jett, Cypress Hill, and House of Pain. If I had to describe it in one word it would be “badass”.
Keogh seems to be very pleased with the sudden success that resulted from his long hours of editing “IMDB Top 250 in 2 1/2 Minutes” (it took him over a month). In the video’s description Keogh says, “The joy of people responding to this positively is not something I have the ability to wrap into a few words. … I made this because I don’t feel like a blog full of words is going to express how much I love film. I made it because it’s the supercut I would really like to see. And nobody…I mean NOBODY is seeing a dime from this. … This is made by and for people who love movies, that’s it, end of story.”
